What's going on with drones over New Jersey?

Over the past few weeks, citizens of New Jersey and surrounding states have seen ominous drones across the night sky. It's only happening when it's dark, specifically between 6pm and 11pm according to most sources. It started on November 18th with a few reports but the sightings have expanded to hundreds per day. These drones are alleged to be the size of motorcars, much larger than the standard hobbyist drones that you can get from Temu. They do not give out any heat radiation, which means you cannot see them with thermal imaging, such as a infrared camera or night vision goggles. Are they aliens from outer space? Do they belong to a foreign adversary? Or are they our own government, seemingly searching for something? The drones seem to be searching for something, as they move across the night sky, sometimes in formation.
